NFL Week Three Recap

NFL+Week+Three+Recap

The NFL is back for another week of football. Here’s an overview of how week 3 went:

On Thursday, week three kicked off with the San Francisco 49ers hosting the New York Giants. The beginning of the game was pretty even; with the first quarter ending 3-3, but the 49ers gained momentum. QB Brock Purdy threw two touchdowns, and RB Christian McCaffrey ran four yards for a touchdown. The 49ers pulled through with a 30-12 victory and move to a 3-0 record. The Giants are now to 1-2 with hope to get their starting RB Saquon Barkley back for next week.

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Chicago Bears on Sunday in a huge 41-10 victory, moving their record to 2-1. QB Patrick Mahomes had a field day, throwing for 272 yards and three touchdowns. The Bears fell to 0-3 on the season, and there are a lot of questions on current starting QB Justin Fields and his future with the team. Fields can’t seem to move the ball downfield and score points even with a decent team around him.

The Arizona Cardinals hosted the undefeated Dallas Cowboys and pulled off a 28-16 upset win giving them their first win this season and moving to 1-2 record. The Cowboys were heavily favored to win going into the game because they have been one of the best teams this season and Arizona has had a slow start. However, Arizona ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown in the air. The Cowboys fought hard, but they couldn’t keep up in the second half.

The Miami Dolphins hosted the Denver Broncos and had a huge 70-20 win–setting a franchise record with most points scored in one game and coming two points short of the NFL record. QB Tua Tagovailoa had a huge game, throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns. The Dolphins also had five rushing touchdowns, coming from Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. The Broncos fell to 0-3 record as they can’t seem to stop anything on defense.

The New England Patriots picked up their first win of the season, beating the New York Jets 15-10. The Jets have been struggling since the starting QB Aaron Rodgers is out for the season after an injury at the beginning of week one. The Jets seem to be going in the wrong direction, and there are many questions about whether or not the Jets should continue to play QB Zach Wilson or make a move to sign a new QB. The Patriots completely outplayed the Jets offense. Only allowing one touchdown and one field goal, and even getting a safety at the end of the game.

The Washington Commanders hosted the Buffalo Bills and got completely outclassed by Buffalo, losing 37-3. The Commanders offense could never really get going, as the Bills defense held them to only a field goal in the fourth quarter and an interception returned for a touchdown. It was a huge game for Bills QB Josh Allen, throwing 218 yards, one touchdown pass. Allen also completed touchdown run. Both teams moved to a 2-1 record.

The Detroit Lions hosted the Atlanta Flacons on Sunday, winning 20-6. Veteran QB Jared Goff led the Lions to a 2-1 record. Throwing 243 yards and one touchdown pass as well completing touchdown run. The Atlanta Falcons seem to have trouble trying to score on offense, even with a talented offense consisting of Desmond Ridder, Kyle Pitts, Jonnu Smith, and many more.

The Indianapolis Colts pulled off an upset win in Baltimore, beating the Ravens 22-19 in overtime. They both put up a very good fights with the score staying close for most of the game. In the last two minutes of the game, the Colts kicked a field goal tying the game. In overtime, Baltimore failed to get in the end zone which led the Colts to kick the game winning field goal.

The Houston Texans picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 37-17. It looks like the Texans have found their franchise QB in rookie C.J. Stroud, who they picked up 2nd overall in this year’s draft. Stroud threw 280 yards and two touchdowns. The Jaguars failed to score in the first half which is what led them to lose, as they couldn’t catch up with the Texans after halftime.

The Cleveland Browns hosted the Tennessee Titans this week and beat them 27-3. Deshaun Watson seems to be fitting in well for the Browns offense as starting QB, throwing for 289 yards and two touchdowns. There are a lot of concerns for the Titans, as their star RB Derrick Henry had 11 carries with only 20 yards.  There are also concerns with the WR1, DeAndre Hopkins with three receptions and only 48 yards.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the New Orlean Saints in a close 17-18 game. The Saints were winning for the majority of the game, and the Packers scored all 18 of their points in the 4th quarter alone. The Packers have been suffering through a series of injuries but have still managed to survive with a young QB Jordan Love leading the way. Love threw 259 yards, as well as scoring and throwing a touchdown.

The Seattle Seahawks hosted the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, winning 37-27. The Panthers have a lot of talent on their offense, but their offensive line still can’t seem to hold up. This issue is costing them as they fall to a 0-3 record this season. The Seahawks have put all of their trust in QB Geno Smith, and it seems to be working just fine, as he threw 296 yards and one touchdown.

The Minnesota Vikings hosted the Los Angeles Chargers in a close game that ended in the Chargers winning 28-24 for their first win of the season. QB Justin Herbert looks to be the next leader for the Chargers in the coming years. He threw 405 yards and three touchdowns. The Vikings have a lot problems to fix in the defense, which is stopping them from being a legitimate contender.

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday 23-18. The Steelers go to 2-1 on the season with young QB Kenny Pickett leading the way with 235 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders have a lot of promise and talent on their offense, but they had problems with turning the ball over. QB Jimmy Garoppolo managed to throw three interceptions during the game.

On Monday Night, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles ended up winning 25-11. Both teams came into the game undefeated, but the Eagles simply have a more complete team. The Eagles defense dominated this game, holding the Bucs to only a field goal in the second quarter and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The second Monday Night game was the Cincinnati Bengals hosting the Los Angeles Rams. The Bengals defeated the Rams 19-16 getting their first win of the season. This was a bounce back win for the Bengals, as people were questioning how good they were after starting the season 2-0. The Rams have had problems this season, but rookie WR Puca Nacua has really made a name for himself, and seems to be the only bright spot that this team has.
