There were 48 seconds on the clock, and the seniors looked for a way to go out with a bang and sweeten the victory. There was never any doubt that they wouldn’t win, but as the game went on, they became increasingly reassured that they would secure a fair and square win.
Turkey Bowl (formerly Powderpuff) is notoriously rigged. Every year, the seniors win whether it is fair or not. This year, the seniors decided to win fairly. They showed up and played hard to compensate for the previous year’s loss.
With only a few short practices, they thrived in the small numbers, giving everyone a position or assuming the same position from the year prior. The seniors made sure to ask any questions, no matter if they seemed like they should be common sense or not.
During the game, they scored terrific touchdowns by Cadey Mettler, Emily Legere, Grace Simpson, and Maren Gilchrist to lead them to victory. At the same time, the defense only allowed the juniors to score two times, leaving the final score 34-14.
Grace Simpson scored the game-winning touchdown and said, “Going into the game, I was excited; I knew it was going to be fun.”
Even though it was a chilly 32° outside, they still had support from their classmates and families, which made the game even better.
Elizabeth Lysak, a senior who came to support her classmates, said, “The game was very energetic and filled with love. It was a great opportunity for seniors of all friend groups to come together.”
The seniors were proud of the win they pulled off, and wish luck to the juniors on the game next year!
