The 2024 McMahon Football season is upon us, kicking off with an away game against New Britain on Friday. With a new set of starting players, McMahon looks to improve on previous seasons, and make the playoffs. I sat down with the team’s head coach, and discussed the impending season.
So, who are the captains? Jermel Bynum, he’s our Slot Receiver and Free Safety; Ayden Soyland; Tight End plus Strong Safety, Anthony Cioffi plays Offensive Guard; and Lorenzo Laracca who’s the quarterback.
When is your first home game?
Our first home game is against Darien and that is on the 20th at Seven O’clock.
How much will tickets cost at the door?
For fans it will cost 5$ and for students it’s actually 3. The money made from tickets doesn’t just go to Football; it goes to all McMahon Athletics.
How does fan turnout affect the players, and how you feel as players?
Well I’ll tell you for the boys [it] really excites them, when we come down the stairs at the beginning of the game and they are announcing us, and they see the McMahoniacs, and the band is playing. I know the more people that are their cheering them on; they get super hyped.
What is just your general outlook and goals for this season?
Well, every year since I’ve taken over we’ve added one more win, and that would put us at a winning season: 6 and 4. That would have our first winning season since 2014.
Do you have any underclassmen or Juniors starting this year?
Yeah, so we have sophomore Justin Daniel, whose brother was the All State running-back last year, who’s playing at Framingham State. He’s playing offense, receiver, and defense corner. We have a Junior Marcus Johnson playing left-tackle. We have 25 seniors, so a lot of those guys are expected to start.
What has been your message to the team?
Just we have to get better every practice, sort of a win a day mentality. Progress, and being better than what we were. The vibes and energy has been really high.
If there is one big takeaway from this article, it’s come out and support the McMahon Senators Football team this season.
