Ins and Outs
In a world where micro-trends rule all in which we live, high school will never be an exception. At a school like McMahon you will find a variety of different people with their unique sense of style and character. Although we’re all different, there are some undeniable ‘ins and outs’ of fashion and we’re here to give you the scoop on what we’re all looking at in an outfit and may be considering buying ourselves
Keep in mind, we don’t mean to deem anyone bad looking or without fashion taste for wearing these articles of clothing. At the end of the day, fashion is a form of expression that one chooses through a sense of self and comfortability. And just because there’s not a trend telling you it’s in, doesn’t mean you don’t totally pull it off. Wear what you want and what you feel good in but without further ado:
The Outs
As we roamed the halls of our high school, we got a general sense of what we were all thinking. From already established opinions in our generation to some hot takes, we’ve got it all, starting with the pieces we’ve deemed OUT of style:
Skinny Jeans: Starting off strong, we’ve got the dreaded skinny jeans. We saw the rise and fall of them in our middle school years, but we can safely say that they are no longer IN for most of our generation as a whole. The tight, itchy feeling will never be as bad as the chicken-legged look they give the wearer. And don’t even get me started on if they’re ripped. We all had the phase, and some never left, but the skinny jean has come to its inevitable downfall.
Panda Dunks / Air Forces / Nike Blazers: I know, I know, a classic everyday shoe that matches with everything but, really, can you even call it fashion anymore? There’s no style, no vision. The basic silhouette of the sneaker and the same black or white look will be seen all across the country. Don’t get me wrong, I love my forces, but I will never be caught wearing them out with a fresh fit knowing 18 people within a 10 ft radius have the same pair. Especially in this era of branching out to different brands of shoes and styles, these just ain’t it anymore. I could come for Nike’s neck but more on that later.
PSD/ Ethikas: say it with me, “Ain’t nobody wanna see yo chonies”. Simple as that, underwear should stay UNDER your clothes. Because why have I seen you with the same pattern all week?? No thank you!
ASICS: They had their moment, but that moment is over. So if you’re an ASICS wearer…. it’s time to get new shoes. They are OUT!
The Ins
Let’s move on to the fun part!
As we all know baggy jeans with a tiny top has always been the go-to. It will forever be a classic staple outfit. Now topped off with some sambas or campuses…. Now that’s a vision. People love how simple and clean they look, making them easy to pair with almost anything.
The “clean girl” aesthetic is all about looking simple but put together. It includes a slicked-back hairstyle, Ugg boots, comfy hoodies, and leggings for a casual vibe. Gold jewelry, like small hoops or necklaces, adds a little more to the vibe without being too much. It’s a mix of cozy, everyday wear with a touch of style. We love to see it!
Camo patterns are slowly making a comeback, and it all started with the Abercrombie & Fitch camo hoodie that blew up on social media.
Influencers and everyday users on Instagram and TikTok began styling it in laid-back, streetwear-inspired looks, bringing camo back into the style.
And there you have it—our take on what’s in and out around the halls of McMahon. Stay tuned for our next round of fashion insights. Until then, wear what makes you feel like your best self, because at the end of the day, that’s what truly matters!
