Do you have a desire to give back to your community but don’t have the time or resources?
A survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 45% of people stated ‘lack of time’ as their reason for not contributing to community service organizations or volunteering with local charities. Another report by the National Conference on Citizenship stated that 63% of Americans claimed they were unaware of local volunteering opportunities within their communities.
What if there was a way to contribute to your community without sacrificing hours of your time or hundreds of dollars? A Nonprofit Sector Report found that 40% of Americans would contribute to service projects if provided with flexible, low-time commitments.
Introducing, The Kindness Collective.
The Kindness Collective is an easily accessible charitable organization in Norwalk, Connecticut, that allows people with busy schedules and limited resources to give back to their community. The Kindness Collective arranges supply drives in public spaces that request many low-cost items and require zero time commitment from participants.
In order to make the biggest impact possible in various areas of the community, the cause being supported rotates monthly. These donation boxes currently reside at Brien McMahon High School, Norwalk Public Library, and the SoNo Public Library, with hopes of additional expansion in the future. Each box is labeled with a QR code, which is linked directly to the website. On the website, participants are able to view the Cause Calendar, which lists the corresponding cause for each month of the year. The website also includes the addresses of the box locations and suggested supplies for each monthly cause. Donation suggestions are all very reasonably priced and could be easily obtained at a local grocery store or pharmacy. At the end of each month, these donations are collected and distributed to the organizations detailed on the calendar.
The Kindness Collective was created to give people a low-commitment, low-cost, and easily accessible method to give back to their communities. You don’t need to sacrifice extensive time and financial commitments to give back to your community, you can do it from the comfort of your school or local library.
Whether you donate a simple roll of paper towels or four cans of baby formula, every contribution makes a difference. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, has the ability to brighten a stranger’s day.
