The 2024-2025 NHL pre-season kicked off last weekend with a game against the Bruins. If you don’t know how NHL pre-seasons are run, they’re like regular—season games, but more prospects are cycled through. Unlike football, big names usually start, but it’s up to some of the younger guys to prove themselves— primarily through training camp.
Last season, Will Cuylle made himself a regular, and Matt Rempe became a common occurrence towards the end of the season. Another six-seven-plus player vying for a regular spot is Adam Edstrom. The Swedish forward made a few substantial plays, including a goal in the last few seconds of his first game.
A few other picks look pretty promising after solid seasons with the Ranger’s AHL affiliate (Minor League), the Hartford Wolfpack.
The Rangers are entering their second season under head coach Peter Laviolette, and the Rangers are coming off a pretty good playoff run,
Now I have done two articles on Matt Rempe, the first a few games in, and this year’s one looking in on his last season. The real question is if he will become a regular starter. Despite the fact that play-wise he could use development, the general element he brings to the game is clearly beneficial, in the games he played, the Rangers had a 14-2-1 record.
The Ranger’s are coming off a playoff run, and although they made it to the Conference Finals, it was somewhat deplorable at best, with certain players, including Captain Jacob Trouba showcasing sub-par play.
I interviewed fellow Ranger’s fan Matt Fry, and he said, “I think the Rangers can come in this season and be legitimate contenders in the East. We just had a solid playoff run, and a lot of our younger guys like Lafreniere and Miller got some good playoff experience.”
The Rangers you guys have gotten a lot of solid experience— from two Conference Finals experience, and one year of the first round, and with this experience, they can learn and grow as players.
Now my other playoff observation, is that the fourth and third lines seemed to play better than the first two, and due to trade deadline acquisitions, and contracts, signing with different teams.
