Jeff Buckley: The Man that Changed my Life

Jeff Buckley: The Man that Changed my Life

An artist, poet, and practically my god. Nothing in my life has stuck with me more than Jeff Buckley. You may know him from his cover of Hallelujah or his song  Lover, You Should’ve Come Over. Even celebrities such as Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Adele, Lana del Rey, and Thom Yorke (Radiohead) love him, just not quite as much as I do.

Jeff only released one album in his short life: Grace. Grace is a mixture of rock, jazz, blues, and a little bit of everything in between. Each song is beautifully put together ; I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve been put into a trance. Not all are necessarily sad, but all of the songs are certainly capable of breaking your heart. The original version of the album has 10 songs and takes 52 minutes to listen to. The legacy edition however, adds an extra hour of enchantment for you.

This isn’t to say that other music of his hasn’t been released. After Jeff’s death, his mother released a compilation of his later music called Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk. While none of the recordings were in their final form, they are still miraculous. They still hold the whimsical form that Jeff Buckley had intended for them. Some of my favorite songs of all time are featured in this album. Even if they were not complete, they are incredibly well made.

Jeff Buckley has so many incredible songs, both that he composed or covered. My personal favorites include Grace, Forget Her, Vancouver, and Satisfied Mind. If I had one wish it would be to be able to go to one of his concerts. There is something to love for anybody who listens to even just one song. I definitely Recommend Jeff Buckley to literally anybody willing to listen.
